I've been a long-time member of the United Mileage Plus plan, and have always had good luck with getting upgrades -- until this year! The plan seems simple enough: you get a credit card thqat gives you 1 mile for each dollar you spend, then, when you're ready to make a trip, you take the miles you've accrued, then get your upgrade. Not so fast, nowadays, it seems. I've been trying to get an upgrade from Economy to Business Class for a trip to Paris. Now they're refusing to release upgradeable seats!! That's not according to the contract I signed originally when I joined up. Now they seem to be changing the "fine print" to give themselves the edge. I know times are tough for everyone, including me! I'm retired and on a budget, so this is very helpful to my situation to be able to upgrade with miles -- until United says, "SORRY - we're going to invoke the fine print that you neglected to read when you signed up, so there's no seat available for you." I believe this is plain and simple "Bait and Switch" -- get your business by deception, then fail to deliver as promised! BEWARE of United Airlines!!
