Review 9/16/2010
This incident has been a year and I didn't see anything posted as I complained before for others benefit so they don't get "taken for a ride" so I am posting it now. Summary: When my light came on in my 1991 Ford Econoline to have the rear anti-lock brake system checked at Mr Brake & Clutch, I ended up with a new front end inner/outer tie rods & pitman arm to the tune of 922.00 which did not solve the problem of the grinding, shaking and noise in both front and rear wheels that I brought it in for. He claimed the brakes severely out of adjustment in rear and sensor causing the light to come on and he thought it was bushing problem. He examined the wheels and determined that the problem was tie rods and pitman arm (on the front end). He said this would solve the problem with the noise & light on. However, when done, the rear anti-lock brake light was still on and the noise, shaking and vibrating while parking or going slow is actually worse! I requested the old parts which were not given to me. He said he no longer had them (huh) immediately after the job is complete? Rob is troubleshooting at my expense and making money off of me in the process. I gave him all day the next day too, Tuesday to resolve the problem and fix the original problem I brought it in for in the first place and he did not do it. He told my Daughter he couldn’t continue to trouble shoot until tie rods were replaced because it was a safety issue! It is not his call to make and this was obviously not even the problem. He fixed something else completely unrelated to the anti-lock rear brakes. Details: I went to talk to Joe from Joe's automotive the next day after the Pitman Arm and Tie Rods were replaced. I was upset and showed him my paperwork. He told me that there is no estimate, there is no description of the problem, no signature authorizing the work. Joe thinks that I could get the money back from Bureau of Automotive Repair. This is on a vehicle with 69,000 miles with conscientious service done periodically with receipts that I have in my possession!!! Rob initially told me and my Daughter that he charged me 922.00 and told me that if the noise was still there, he would fix it “free of charge” to make sure I was taken care of! He informed me that I needed to get the front end aligned somewhere else. Done for 69.00 at Big O Tires. Rob told my Daughter that he could not have continued to diagnose the problem until the tie rods were fixed, as it was a safety issue, but still would look at it and fix the problem I brought it in for the following day. After the Pitman Arm, etc was done, I drove it around the next day and found that the noise was not only still there but worse! I was afraid the prospective buyer would not buy it that way with he anti-lock break problem and light still on which I told her would be fixed and she was coming to get it the next day!!! I took it back to Rob @ Mr. Brakes the next day so he could fix the actual problem. I got there around 10:30 am. He left me sitting most of the day till 3:30 pm to look at it. He looked at the back brakes and said they were fine (obviously not seriously out of adjustment as originally stated). The brakes was the reason I took it to Mr Brakes!!!! Now it appears that his is the first time he's really looking at the REAL problem. He suggested we take it to the Transmission place next door to his shop on Coleman Ave. (since he obviously still cannot find the original, real problem). Rob told the transmission guys that he had fixed the original problem for me and this was a new problem (which was another lie and I told them that the original problem still existed) and it had been aligned so there was not a problem there. The transmission guys suggested it was a problem with the rear axle on the rear right wheel and wanted to take it apart to check it for the problem and noise and shaking. The REAR ANTILOCK BRAKE LIGHT is still stuck on at this point and the van was still making grinding sounds in the rear and I had no more money to fix this and Rob is passing me to someone else instead of fixing the original problem!!! I finally got disgusted and left. I decided to discount more money on the final sale price. The lady did come and get the van and took it “as is” with an additional $500.00 off my original price. I consider Rob unethical and has very bad business practices to boot. He did give me a new front end that I didn't need or want and never fixed the original problem costing me a total of $1500.00.
